Acid Waste Specification

 ACID OR HAZARDOUS WASTE SYSTEM SCOPE OF WORK:

Provide all labor, materials, equipment, tools and services, and perform all operations required in connection with the installation of complete acid waste systems as indicted on the drawings.

MATERIALS:

All pipe and fittings shall be chemically resistant borosilicate Kimax glass drainline, as manufactured by Schott Process System, serviceable from the freezing point of the liquid handled to 212 degrees Fahrenheit continuously, 250 degree Fahrenheit  intermittently and from full vacuum to 15 psi.  All joints shall be made using couplings of stainless steel with Teflon liners, which have leak-free deflection characteristics of 4 degrees.  Odd lengths shall be fabricated by field cutting and joining with stainless steel, bead to plain end coupling with Teflon liner.  The stainless steel shell will enclose the liner at each end of the coupling.
This contractor will furnish to owner a glass cutter after completion of the job.  System shall be U.L. classified for three hour firestop and must meet N.F.P.A. Life Safety Code for fire floor and fire wall requirements.   Classified borosilicate glass shall conform to  ASTM C 1053-85 and Federal Spec MIL-P-22561-B. (To meet uniform Plumbing Code all pipe and pipe fittings shall have the IAPMO listing and be so labeled.)

ABOVE GROUND:

Pipes passing through walls and floors shall be fitted with pipe sleeves a minimum of 2” greater diameter than the pipe O.D.  Caulk the annular space between the pipe and sleeve with approved sealing material.  Piping shall not be installed in direct contact with concrete.  All fabrication and installations to be in accordance with manufacturer’s installation manual.

UNDER GROUND:

Buried pipe shall be encased in 1.5 lbs. Per cubic foot density expanded polystyrene and the fittings shall be protected against scratching.  Installation to be in accordance with manufacturer’s installation manual.

HANGERS:

Entire system shall be installed free of stress.  Horizontal lines shall allow for lateral movement of pipe and shall be supported by padded hanger every 8 to 10 feet.  Vertical lines shall be supported by padded riser clamps, which shall restrict sideward and downward movements.  Three inch and larger diameters stacks shall be supported at each floor by a riser clamp, smaller diameter stacks shall be supported at every other floor.

TRAPS:

  1. Glass traps under sinks shall be P Style Swivel, Drum Traps Kimax Number 6710 or equal.
  2. Glass traps for cup sinks shall be Swivel P Trap Kimax Number 6701 or equal.
  3. Glass traps for special areas with a high content of solids in waste shall be Kimax 6708 or equal.
